About Us

The Kauai Open Source Science Alliance (KOSSA) is an informal group of professionals concerned with not only furthering the goals of the open source science movement in general, but, being residents of Kauai, in Hawaii, we collect our own funding for medical research from local philanthropists, with the intent to target local needs. Not only does this mean that clinical trials can be swiftly undertaken with the help of local people willing to try new therapies, but the philanthropists can observe directly the progress and benefits emanating from their donations. Our organization aims to keep our approach local, while acting as a template for other groups to emulate. Of course we also emphasize the importance of geographically distant groups sharing data and information as well, but we have found our approach an excellent way to generate funding and fast track research, which can be shared with other researchers throughout the world.
